An old and large cooking apple from Sussex raised in the1700s originally known as Shepherd's Pippin that came to the London Horticultural Society in 1819. Hardy, resistant to scab, canker and mildew and good for damper climes. Cream, juicy, sweet flesh that cooks to a superb puree with pear like flavours. Received the Award of Merit in 1920. Pollination group 3.
