Burrowhill Early - an interesting full bittersweet.

Recovered for an old orchard in Stembridge and developed by Long Ashton this variety tended to be too biennial to succeed commercially.  In season these strongly red flushed apples are ready by the end of September. Nevertheless, we should celebrate the quality of the sweet and astingent flesh as a full bodied bittersweet with a fruity aroma with pleasing tannin.
