Jersey Black - a 19th Century cider apple from the USA.

Yorkshire Apples

Aka Black Apple. First recorded in 1817 and said to have originated in New Jersey.  Much admired in the mid 1800s in the UK as a cider apple although its notoriety remains as a parent to Macoun. Often known as the Black Apple - the skin is a very dark mahogany red verging on black - it offers creamy white flesh that is sweet, aromatic with a resinous hint. It is considered to be valuable for dessert eating and cider. Pollination group 3.
