Marie Menard - a heritage bittersweet from Brittany.
Yorkshire Apples
Aka Sans Richaumont - a very important heritage bittersweet cider apple variety found as a seedling by Marie Ménard at Lamballe farmers market on the coast of Brittany in 1910. After pressing, a bitter, dense, tannin-rich, and deeply coloured must is obtained. These apples produce a full-bodied cider with a rich texture and intense color. It is a benchmark variety - an essential ingredient in robust Brittany style ciders that contribute up to 60% to the production of Calvados. It has low susceptibility to scab, powdery mildew, and canker. Pollination group 5.
