Mela Carla - a rare ancient variety from Italy.
Yorkshire Apples
A very old Italian variety (Turin) recorded in 1817 but probably considerably older - that may be the second oldest recorded apple. A rarity in the UK, Mela Carla or apple of Charlemagne (8th century) is an interesting medium sized, a late white fleshed fruit that offers melting sweetness and flavour in good summers. Must be grown in the south of Britain to achieve full maturity. Pollination Group 2.
