Thought to have been grown 300 years ago in Somerset this variety was once eaten as a refreshing dessert apple. Nowadays, however, its modus operandi is as a large, golden and sweet cider apple that can be used to produce the earliest fermentations.  Resistant to scab and a prolific bearer.
